Playoff Post-Game Close Out Note

In what exemplified our motto for this season, ‘Finish Strong’, your Bulldogs lived up to every letter of that statement on Saturday. Fighting hard on every play from start to the final whistle, it was a tremendous display of the combination of will, skill and attitude all coming together. Although it was a close game through halftime, as the game wore on, this team imposed its determination over New Kent to score a 30-6 win. For the first time in 3 years, the Berkeley Bulldogs have ended this season with a win on playoff Saturday.

It cannot be overstated how much it has meant all season and especially this weekend to have all the families and supporters of the team on our sidelines. One of the first comments we get from folks who are visiting the games for the first time, is just how many people we have on our sidelines both at home and most importantly at away games, The players and coaches heard all of you in the stands and rest assured when we needed to dig deep, you were all there to spur them on. Thanks again for sharing a great way to end the 2017 campaign.

A special thanks goes out to Damien Tavarez’s and Jackson Zahn’s families who provided the halftime snacks and drinks. We all greatly appreciate the time, effort and monetary support for the entire program. As has been the case all season, we also want to take a moment to thank Mrs. Coleman for setting up and managing the Meal/Snack program and keeping control of our sidelines. We would like to thank Mr. Outten for his filming skills as our team videographer this entire season. A very special thanks to the Berkeley Middle School Football Alumni members who helped out on the chains for this game. Not only was it great to see them on our sidelines, but to volunteer to run the chain gang allowed our parents to watch the game from the stands.  Finally, we would like to thank Nick Garcia’s mom for all the banners she made this season for the cheerleaders to hold and the team to run through to start off each game!

Close Out Notes: (1) For those who would like to order t-shirts and sweatshirts, we will open up an on line order process again. More details to follow over the next couple of days. We will for sure have complete information by the time we start collecting up equipment at the end of this week. (2) The search for the pair of black Izod dress pants has been called off as they were placed at the foot of the owner’s locker early last week. (3) Equipment turn in instructions were posted in the locker room last week and as of today are on the team website. Hard copies of the instructions will be addressed to each player and in homeroom teacher’s box this afternoon. The intent was to have them there this morning, but all the copiers at Berkeley were either tied up or broken. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. The instructions are very detailed and I know they may seem very restrictive. Again, this is to preclude the situation that occurred at the end of the 2014 season. The result was over $2000.00 worth of equipment going missing as the current coaching staff took over the program. Your cooperation is tremendously appreciated. (4) Thanks to those that followed the provisions we put in place for the players that chose to stay and watch the final playoff game. (5) Complete details will follow in the next couple of days on the end of season recognition ceremony. If all equipment is not turned in, players will NOT be invited to attend this ceremony and collection of funds to pay for replacement will be turned over to the school front office. That has not happened in the past two years, and we don’t expect any issues this year either.

Finally, we would like to again thank everyone who came out on Saturday to witness the grit and determination of all the players both on and off the field. It was a tremendous effort by everyone and we could not be any prouder of what each and every player gave to our program both on Saturday and throughout the entire season! We look forward to seeing everyone at the end of season ceremony.
