Toano Post-Game Notes

A heartfelt thanks goes out to everyone who was out at Berkeley Middle School field yesterday afternoon to support our team in the first home game of the season.  Based on the results of the game, it is clear that these Bulldogs rose to the occasion and performed superbly in front of their fans on their field! In another shining example of taking what we emphasize on each day in practice and attempt to display it on the field, our focus on a quick and decisive start played out right from the very first time we touched the ball on the kick off. We will continue to take one game at a time and use our momentum to drive us for this next week.

A special thanks goes out to Chase Harris’ and Nick Garcia’s families who provided the halftime snacks and drinks. Likewise, thank you to Jared Russet’s, Chris Dawson’s, Austin Moser’s and Blake Condron’s families for providing the after-game meal and drinks upon the completion of the game last night. They hit the spot and for the second week in a row, we had several players lined up for seconds. We all greatly appreciate the time, effort and monetary support for the entire program, no matter the outcome of each week’s game. As has been the case all season, we also want to take a moment to thank Mrs. Coleman for setting up and managing the Meal/Snack program and keeping control of our frenzied sidelines as well as Mr. Outten for his filming skills as our team videographer. Finally, would like to thank those parents and families that worked the sidelines on the chain gang.

We would also like to take a moment and send out a special thanks the Color Guard from the William and Mary ROTC detachment for their presentation of the colors to start the game. Precise and detailed in their marching on and off the field, their participation brought a level of professionalism to the pre-game activities and fitly honored our nation with their presence.

Today (Wednesday, the 4th of October) we will review film right after school and will release all players by 5:00 pm for pick up or the opportunity to ride the Activity Bus. Based on the current weather forecast, we plan to practice our normal Thursday and Friday until 6:00 pm.

Thank you to all our families and players for their commitment to the program and Berkeley Middle School. As mentioned above, the turnout was tremendous and is truly appreciated by everyone on the field and sidelines.  For the second week in a row, we got shorted on our 5th quarter activities. Again, we had several players who didn’t get a chance to play as much as we had intended and I apologized to them for what happened. For some reason the Toano coach decided to only do one iteration of offense and defense when we normally do at least two if not three turns on offense and defense. We will continue to work with the other teams to ensure everyone gets a chance to see quality time on the field of play.

After this week’s home game, we’re back on the road for a kick off at 4:30 pm on Tuesday the 10th of October versus York Middle School. More details on the next game will follow this weekend/early next week as we get closer to kick off. Thanks to those who have turned in the Athletic Fee forms be working on a case-by-case basis to get the rest so they can be turned into the Athletic Director.
